Rube Goldberg Challenge – November 2, 2020

Description:
Inspired by the drawings of the famous illustrator, this course introduces the concepts of simple machines and energy so students can build their own Rube Goldberg machine. A Goldberg machine is one that completes a simple task in a most complicated way. In this series, you’ll be introduced to chain reaction machines, different forms of energy and simple machines. You’ll build on the knowledge and skills you learn by designing and constructing your own Rube Goldberg machine.
Rube Goldberg Machines is broken into three 2-week sessions.
Cost: $39 per session. Sign up for all 3 sessions for $105.
Rube Goldberg Machines 1: Energy
Session: Fall A, November 2-13
Days/Times: Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Cost: $39.00
In Rube Goldberg 1, learn about collisions, momentum and potential energy vs. kinetic energy. Put your knowledge to the test by designing and building an overly complicated mouse trap.
Rube Goldberg Machines 2: Simple Machines
Session: Fall B, November 16-Dececember 4
Days/Times: Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Cost: $39.00
In Rube Goldberg 2, explore simple machines and see how inclined planes, screws, pulleys, wheels and axles, wedges, and levers can be used in crazy contraptions. Design and build a paper plate spiral track using a variety of simple machines.
Rube Goldberg Machines 3: Rube Goldberg Challenge
Session: Fall C, December 7-18
Days/Times: Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Cost: $39.00
During the Rube Goldberg Challenge, pull together everything you’ve learned from Rube Goldberg 1 and 2 to design and build the ultimate crazy contraption.
